Bradenton Woman Killed After Running A Red Light In Manatee County
A 48-year-old Bradenton woman recently lost her life after running a red light in Manatee County. According to an October 21, 2024, Bradenton Herald news report, the accident happened on a Sunday night at the intersection of 30th Avenue East and U.S. 41/South Tamiami Trail.
Police claim the woman was driving a sedan and heading westbound when she approached a red light at U.S. 41. A 27-year-old Holiday man in a pickup truck was traveling north on the interstate and had the green light at the intersection. As he went through, the female driver ran the light and hit the truck’s passenger side. Sadly, she died at the scene, while the other driver was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety warns that red-light-running car accidents happen frequently at intersections and are among the most dangerous types of crashes, claiming the lives of nearly 1,500 people throughout the U.S. each year. While red light running is a fairly straightforward term, it can happen in a variety of ways:
- Purposely running red lights;
- Racing to get through yellow lights;
- Jumping ahead in anticipation of a green light;
- Being distracted or under the influence and running the red light on accident.
